ENDOMETRIOSIS: TREATMENT
Non-surgical treatment
In addition to or instead of surgical methods, a variety of drug treatments have been used to treat endometriosis. The aim is to interrupt the cycle of hormonal stimulation of the misplaced endometriotic tissue in the hope that without stimulation it will shrivel up and wither away. Usually at least six (but more often nine) months of treatment is needed to achieve this. Usually a woman has no periods during the time of treatment. Not all endometrial tissue is destroyed; the lining tissue of the uterus recovers after treatment when the normal hor¬monal balance is restored.

MAKING A COMMITMENT: DIFFERENT PHASES.
Sexual relationships generally go through predictable phases. There’s the initial exchange of signals of mutual attraction, the thrill of the chase, the ’getting to know you’ phase of increasing emotional intimacy, the ’it feels so good when he/she touches me and I think I’d like more’ phase and then the ’will I or won’t I?’ phase. Nowadays this is often followed by the negotiation phase when subjects like safer sex, contraception and ground rules for the relationship are sorted out. After a while a state of familiarity develops. Somewhere along the way, one or both partners feel it’s time to make a commitment to the other person.

’Not only will men of science have to grapple with the sciences that deal with man, hut-and this is a Jar more difficult matter- they will have to persuade the world to listen to what they have discovered. If they cannot succeed in this difficult enterprise, man will destroy himself by his halfway cleverness.’
